Seminar Workshop on Scriptwriting for Development Theater

Code:    Proj-63
Date:    10/23/1979 - 10/29/1979
Duration: 7 Days

This project was a spin-off of the concluded "Rural Theater : A Vehicle for Family Planning," a PCF action-research project undertaken in 1976 by the University of the Philippines Institute of Mass Communication to test the effectiveness of theater in communicating the concept of family planning as well as other development messages in the rural areas. This seminar-workshop aimed to expand the availability of relevant development theater scripts. The seminar-workshop was held on October 23-29, 1977 at the National Arts Center in Laguna under joint sponsorship of the National YCAP (Youth Civic Action Program) Coordinating Center (NYCC) of the Department of Education and Culture, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and PCF. Students from six universities in Ilocos, Bicol, Cagayan De Oro, Dumaguete, Iloilo and Cotabato participated. The workshop output totalled 12 scripts with population and family planning as the underlying theme, woven into family life issues. The scripts were made available to DEC-YCAP, which has officially integrated development theater into the YCAP curriculum. Requests were received for the replication of the scripts by other agencies such as the National Media Production Center (NMPC).
