Developing Collaborative Research Between the Academe and LGU Towards Addressing Metropolitan Issues of Davao

Code:    03-024
Date:    05/15/2003 - 09/15/2003

This project was a follow through activity of the Metro Davao visioning workshop, which PCPD funded in 2001-2002. It demonstrated how local governments can collaborate with the academe in undertaking population and development research for local policy advocacy on popdev.

UP Mindanao orchestrated the collaborative work between the 4 LGUs (Panabo, Sta. Cruz,Samal Island, Davao City) and the DACUN research group. The outputs were research proposals that address the main problems related to urbanization and population growth which were identified by the 4 LGUs during the visioning workshop.

DACUN is a consortium composed of heads of research departments of the following universities: Ateneo de Davao, University of Southeastern Philippines, Rizal Memorial Colleges, University of Immaculate Concepcion, and Davao Doctors Colleges.

The mobilization work facilitated by UP Mindanao was an important component of an evolving model for popdev planning at the local government level.
