News - Archdiocese of CDO Held Symposium on PopDev

The Archdiocese of Cagayan De Oro in collaboration with the Research Institute for Mindanao Culture (RIMCU) held a symposium on "Responsible Parenthood, Population and Development: Where Are We Today?" on August 12, 2008 at Xavier University, Cagayan De Oro (CDO) City.

PCPD supported the symposium which aimed to inform key religious sector and church workers in CDO City about population trends and development links.  Rev. Bishop Antonio J. Ledesma, S.J.D.D. expects that the symposium would help clergy, church leaders and workers take a more active role in their respective parishes in addressing problems related to population and development.

Topics discussed during the symposium are as follow:

Perspective on population and development: Facts and Theories by Dr. Alejandro N. Herrin

Catholic perspectives on the population issue by Rev. Fr. Ramon De Echica

Addressing demographic realities: alternative perspectives (meeting the felt needs of couples in Ipil Prelature) by Dr. Chona Echavez, et al.

Human Vitae: A summary explanation and defense by Rev. Fr. Alberto S. Uy, SSJV
