Symposia on Population Trends and Development Links
Date: 07/15/2005 - 10/31/2005
The project aimed to inform key religious leaders in Regions 6, 7, 8, and 10 about the dynamics of population development.
Specifically it aimed to: 1. Provide participants with a comprehensive view of population dynamics and inform them about contemporary demographic trends in the country; 2. Point out existing and potential problems with respect to the current demographic situation; 3. Explain the relationship between population change and development; 4. Encourage discussion of alternative strategies for addressing problems related to population and development; and 5. Establish a clear understanding of the content of House Bill 3773.
Three symposia were held for the Catholic Education Association of the Philippines (CEAP) member schools in the targeted regions. The last of the series was held in Cebu City on October 26, 2005 attended by parish priests, some members of the Family Life Apostolate group, the Association of Women Religious in Cebu, government agencies personnel, and CEAP Region 7 member schools who were not able to attend the first symposium in the region. The forum was also opened to the general public.
The success of the first series of symposia triggered a second grant before the year ended.
