News - PCPD OKs Four New Projects
PCPD has recently approved four new projects for 2012.
· “Dare to Act” School Symposia on Teen Issues on Health, Sexuality, Population and Development;
· Community-based Population and Development Education among Community Children, Youth and Parents in Sitio Calvary;
· A Summer Certificate Course on Population and Development; and
· Mulat Pinoy Year 3: Calling the Youth to Action on Popdev Issues, with Focus on Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights through Online and Offline Strategies of Probe Media Foundation.
The symposia will be held in five universities in Metro Manila where majority of the students are from the lower socioeconomic class and will be implemented by the Foundation for Adolescent Development. The project will also encourage the schools’ administration to address health, sexuality and popdev issues in their curriculum and services for students and will explore the possibility of using the popdeved modules for college students.
The project for sitio Calvary in barangay Damayang Lagi in Quezon city will educate residents on the impact of population on the environment, including proper solid waste management. It will also tap the city government for assistance in the community’s SWM such as setting up a materials recovery facility. The project is implemented by the Trinitian Center for Community Development of Trinity University of Asia.
The Office of the Population Studies of San Carlos University will develop and pilot test a certificate course on popdev to be offered during the summer for teachers and other development professionals.
The Mulat Pinoy project will harness the energy and capability of young people in addressing issues on sexual and reproductive health and rights. Its main strategy is to involve the youth in population-related discourse through the use of the Internet and social networks. Now on its third year, Mulat Pinoy is implemented by Probe Media Foundation. #####
